ITO Case study

Nordic Nest expands logistics capacity to 25,000 orders a day with ITO PallPack

Customer name Nordic Nest
Industry Logistics
Location Sweden

Nordic Nest, a leading online retailer of Scandinavian design and homeware, runs its logistics center in Kalmar, Sweden. The facility, established in 2019, has already seen major expansions in 2021 and 2022. In 2023, the company launched its largest logistics upgrade yet – an installation that not only strengthens Nordic Nest’s competitiveness but also stands as one of ITO PallPack’s most significant projects to date.

Challenge

With rapid growth and high seasonal peaks, Nordic Nest needed to handle an ever-increasing volume of orders more efficiently. Previous investments had optimised the picking process, but the packing stage was becoming a bottleneck. The company needed a solution that could reduce costs per order, manage heavy fluctuations such as Black Week, and at the same time contribute to sustainability goals by reducing unnecessary packaging and transport volume.

Solution

The new installation includes more than one thousand meters of conveyor belts, a new sorting system, and six Jivaro packaging machines from Savoye. The Jivaro machines automatically adjust each box to the height of its contents, eliminating empty space and minimising the use of air and filler. Boxes are sealed with branded lids that highlight the Nordic Nest and Svenssons logos, ensuring both efficient packing and strong brand visibility.

According to Johan Torudd, Operations Developer Lead at Nordic Nest:

"This is a hugely important investment for us in terms of competitiveness, efficiency, and growth opportunities. The ITO system enables us to process even more orders per day at a lower cost per order, while also achieving transport and environmental benefits."

Result

The installation gives Nordic Nest the flexibility and capacity to manage intense demand, particularly during Black Week, when the logistics center processes up to 25,000 orders per day. With six Jivaro machines and multiple carton formats, the company can maintain smooth operations during its busiest periods, while ensuring packaging is sustainable and aligned with customer expectations.

Equally important, the project has strengthened the partnership between Nordic Nest and ITO PallPack. Torudd highlights the close collaboration:

"We experienced that ITO’s Swedish and Norwegian teams were just as committed as our own employees throughout the project. It has undoubtedly been a major undertaking, but we are very satisfied and confident that our high expectations will be met."
